any time you see a file with a filename that starts with ~$Filename.ext the ~$ it means that it is a temporary file that is used by the word (or other) program to keep track of things untill the program is closed. things that allow you to delete and restore information. when you delete it the old version is stored in the temp file. that is how you can restore mistakes. so if you are working on a file named FirstFile.doc while you are working on it their is a temp file called ~$rstFile.doc in the same folder as the the firstfile.doc. when you save and exit the Firstfile.doc the ~$rstfile.doc will disapear. Try this create a file with a paragraph or two in it and save it to your desktop without closing it. , minimize the file without closing it. and you will see the two files on the desktop. the main file Filename.ext and the temp file ~$lename.ext. right click the taskbar on the main file while it is minimized in the taskbar. then close the main file you will see the temp file close also.
